Name
The name of this organization shall be the Lake Highland Preparatory School Athletic Hall of Fame, a program under the jurisdiction of the Athletic Department of Lake Highland Preparatory School.
Purpose
The purpose of the Lake Highland Preparatory School Athletic Hall of Fame is;
- To recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of outstanding athletes, coaches, teams, administrators and Highlander supporters.
- To reconnect those individuals and their families with Lake Highland.
- To deepen the current student-athlete’s understanding of and pride in the history of Lake Highland athletics.
Governance
The Hall of Fame shall be governed by a Hall of Fame Selection Committee, which shall include the Athletic Director, as an ex officio member, and a committee that shall consist of not less than seven (7) nor more than eleven (11) members. Consensus would be needed for all decisions. If consensus cannot be reached, then a vote would be taken that would require a majority vote.
The Athletic Director appoints board members every three years. Any member may be re-appointed to consecutive years. Faculty, coaching staff, and/or alumni may represent the members.
Athletic Hall of Fame Criteria
Athlete
- Eligible 5 years after graduation.
- Must have lettered in at least one sport twice or two sports at least once during his/her athletic career at LHP.
- Exemplified sportsmanship, leadership, citizenship and teamwork as an LHP athlete.
Team
- Eligible 5 years after championship season.
- Accomplishments that raised the bar or set a standard for teams to follow.
- Left a legacy on LHP athletics.
Coach, Staff, or Supporter
- Eligible after 3 years of service to LHP athletics.
- Made a significant contribution to LHP athletics through their leadership, inspiration, and support.
- Accomplishments raised or set a standard for future coaches, teams, administrators, and supporters of LHP athletics.
Requirements and Procedures For Nomination
Requirements for Nomination
In order to maintain the integrity of the Hall of Fame, the following criteria are established for nominations:
Nominees must exemplify the highest standards of sportsmanship, ethical conduct, and moral character. All candidates will be judged on their significant and/or long term contributions to athletic endeavors. In addition, as much as possible, acknowledged leadership in his/her chosen field or community, state, and national presence will be considered.
Nominations Procedures
The following procedures shall be utilized for nominations to the Hall of Fame.
- Inductees may be nominated either:
- by the selection committee
- by current faculty, administration, and staff
- by current members of the community
- by an alumnus of LHP
- Nomination Form
- All entries must be submitted on the official Lake Highland Preparatory School Athletic Hall of Fame nomination form.
- The nomination form shall be available through the Athletic Director’s office, school website, and Hall of Fame committee member.
- The nomination form shall be completed and submitted to and received by the Athletic Director or Hall of Fame committee member along with appropriate support materials by November 1
of each year for a candidate to be considered for induction in the school year. All nominations received for consideration must contain active and current address and contact information for the nominee (or family if deceased). Failure to supply support material will result in invalidating the application, consequently the nomination will not be considered.
- In addition to the official nomination form, the following materials should be submitted for an individual’s consideration:
- A letter of recommendation from the person making the nomination, and other letters of support from appropriate individuals who can validate or substantiate pertinent information related to the high school career of the nominee.
- A limited number of newspaper clippings, magazine articles, copies of scorebooks, and statistics may be included to help substantiate the accomplishments and contributions of the nominee.
- A suitable photograph for reproduction should be submitted.
- Term of Nomination
Following initial nomination, a candidate shall remain eligible for induction for the following three years. After this time has expired, the candidates name must be re-submitted on a new nomination form in order for that individual to be considered.
Procedures For Selecting Induction Class
Section 1. The Selection Committee
The Hall of Fame Selection Committee will meet annually to select candidates based on the criteria presented in this document. The Athletic Director, who will also serve as an ex officio member on the committee, shall appoint the committee. The Athletic Director will replace any vacancy that shall occur prior to the conclusion of a term.
The duties and responsibilities of the Hall of Fame Selection Committee shall be as follows:
- Attend the regular scheduled selection meetings.
- Annually evaluate the nomination of individuals submitted which fulfill the requirements for consideration.
- Approve only those individuals who had significant and or long term contributions or athletic accomplishments at Lake Highland Preparatory School.
- Evaluate and update the policies and operational procedures of the Lake Highland Preparatory School Athletic Hall of Fame. This is to be done on an annual basis.
- Validate and approve all worthy candidates for induction into the Lake Highland Preparatory Athletic Hall of Fame. This is to be done under the parameters as set forth in this document.
- Keep all action of the Selection Committee confidential.
The voting procedures of the Hall of Fame Selection Committee shall be as follows:
- The Selection Committee shall review candidates based on information available at the time of the meeting.
- At the discretion of the chair, the Hall of Fame Selection Committee may meet as a group or may choose to do its balloting by proxy ranking.
- After open discussion about candidates, a vote will be conducted for the purposes of choosing inductees.
- Voting will be conducted according to a point system i.e.:
First Choice = 10 Points
Second Choice = 7 Points
Third Choice = 4 Points
Fourth Choice = 2 Points
Fifth Choice = 1 Point
- The induction class is determined by totaling the number of votes for each candidate. The individual or individuals with the highest vote total shall be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
- The annual voting of the Selection Committee will be confidential.
- Inductees will be announced at a pre-determined time following the final selection process and after the individuals have been contacted and indicated that they will be present or represented at the induction ceremony.
- Prior publicity concerning nominees is not appropriate.
Induction Ceremony
The Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony shall be held each year in conjunction with the All Sports banquet held in the spring. Inductees will be notified by January 15th if selected for the current year’s class.
