Brooke Taylor Klauer

 

 

Brooke Taylor was a member of the LHP Varsity Swim team for 4 years, captain for three years, and was the team’s Most Valuable swimmer all four years of high school. She won three FHSAA Florida state titles: two in the 100 Butterfly and one the 200 Medley Relay. The 200 Medley Relay time was the best time posted nationally and earned a national title. Brooke was named the Orlando Sentinel “Swimmer of the Year” in 2000. She also competed regularly at the national level and became the first LHPS athlete to quality for the Olympic trials. She trained at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado and competed at the 2000 Olympic Trials in 4 events; 100 fly, 200 fly, 200 IM, and the 400 IM. While at Lake Highland, Brooke was a member of the National Honor Society and the Link Leadership Council, which focuses on community service. Following her stellar high school career, she was granted a four year athletic scholarship to the University of Notre Dame..

Aubrey Whitaker

 

 

Coach Aubrey Whitaker came to LHPS from Frostproof High School in 1981 and immediately transformed the morale and  ulture of the athletic department. His boys’ basketball program compiled an impressive 162- 83 record over 8 years.
His teams collected several district and regional championships, and made it to the state final four in 1984. Coach
Whitaker also served as an assistant football coach and was an integral part of the success of that program
including the pivotal team of 1982 which finished at 9-1. He would later become the schools athletic director, boy’s tennis coach, and girls’ volleyball coach. He brought an understanding of the importance of preparation, discipline and intensity, permanently affected the lives of numerous student athletes. His influence had a profound impact on many LHP graduates which survives to this day.

Gina Martin

 

 

Gina Martin joined Lake Highland as the school’s first full time athletic trainer in 1993. Under Gina’s guidance and direction, Lake Highland now has one of the best high school sports medicine programs in the state. Gina also developed a curriculum for athletic training in the upper school which has two offerings for students interested in learning about athletic training. Coach Martin devoted herself to the school and the athletic program and provided students with a person who was supportive, nurturing and caring. She educated the coaching staff on the prevention of injuries and rehabilitation and was viewed as valuable component of each and every program. Gina was well respected in the medical community and developed relationships with several medical specialists in the area that volunteer their time and expertise in the treatment of our student athletes.

 

 

 
 
 

 

Charmaine Cox

 

 

Charmaine Cox has served Lake Highland athletics in many capacities since joining the staff in 1991. Currently the school’s Associate Athletic Director, Charmaine has easily navigated the changes from physical education teacher to administrator and briefly coached girls’ basketball and softball over the past 18 years. The one constant during that period of time is that she has served as Lake Highland’s head volleyball coach. The volleyball program is one of the most successful in state history winning 5 consecutive state titles. This year Coach Cox surpassed the 400 victory mark and is by far the most successful coach in Lake Highland history. She has been selected the 3A coach of the year 7 times and the Florida coach of the year in 2007.  In 2008, the National Federation of High School Sports named Coach Cox the South Sectional Coach of the Year, which includes the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Charlotte Campbell– Class of 2002

 

 

Charlotte was a member of the LHP girls’ golf team from 8th-12th grades and was named All Conference her freshman, sophomore, junior, and
senior years. She also led the Highlanders to the 2001 state championship. After graduation, Charlotte received a full golf scholarship to Rollins College, where she led the Lady Tars to two Division II national titles. Charlotte was named the Division II national Player of the Year four years in a row (2002-2006) and was named to the Academic All-American team all four years as well.

Charlotte is an exempt member of the 2008 Duramed Futures Tour, a developmental tour for the LPGA. This is her second year as a professional player. Charlotte also volunteers as an assistant coach for the LHP girls’ golf team.

Dr. Tom Winters– Supporter

 

 

Dr. Winters has served as the LHPS team physician for 20 years. He has selflessly volunteered his time and vast medical expertise for pre-participation physicals, game coverage, injuries, treatment, and surgeries. He has been an integral part of our sports medicine team both on and off the field.

Dr. Winters graduated from Brown University and received his medical degree from the University of Connecticut. Dr. Winters is the owner of Winters Orthopedics in Orlando. He holds seven patents on medical devices, is a member of ten professional societies, and owns the Orlando restaurant Doc’s.

He is majority owner of the Brevard Manatees minor- league Baseball team. He lives in Winter Park with his wife, Dr. Rebecca Moroose, and
two sons, Zach and Nate, both of whom attended Lake Highland.

Austin Brownlee- Class of 1995

 

 

Austin Brownlee, an executive with Brown and Brown Insurance in Norfolk, Virginia is a 1995 graduate of Lake Highland Prep. While at Lake Highland, Austin earned two football letters and four in basketball. He was a four year varsity basketball starter winning MVP honors his junior and senior years. Austin led the team to a 26-5 record as the team captain his senior year, averaging 18 points per game. He earned a scholarship to Embry- Riddle Aeronautical University where he continued to distinguish himself as a four year starter, helping to take the team to four straight NAIA National Championship Tournament appearances. MVP his senior year, Austin ranks third on Embry- Riddle’s all time assists list and second in steals. After graduation, he joined the Eagles’ coaching staff as a graduate assistant and helped guide the 2000 team to the NAIA National Championship.

 

Paula Gentil – Class of 2002

 

 

Paula Gentil, a research scientist with the University of Minnesota, graduated from Lake Highland in 2002. She moved to Florida from Brazil for her final two years of high school. The LHP girls volleyball team compiled a record of 51- 9 during her tenure. She was the FACA Player of the Year in both 2000 and 2001 and an All-State selection as a junior. Paula averaged 11 kills and 14 digs per match as a junior and 14 kills and 14 digs as a senior. She was honored as the Orlando Sentinel Central Florida Volleyball Player of the Year in 2001. She also lettered in soccer and softball while at Lake Highland. Paula went on to graduate from the University of Minnesota with a double major in genetic physiology and cell biology in 2006. She was a three time volleyball All- American and led Minnesota to two final four appearances.

Max Starks - Class of 2000
 

 

Starting offensive tackle for the Super Bowl XL Champion Pittsburgh Steelers, Max is the first Highlander to make it to the NFL. A 4- sport athlete, he also lettered in basketball, weightlifting and track. In his senior year, he was ranked among the top 20 football players in the state and made the All-American lists published by Super Prep, National Blue Chip, Prep Star and USA Today and was picked twice for the All-Conference team in basketball. Max attended the University of Florida on a football scholarship and was drafted by the Steelers in 2004. Known for his community service as a student, he recently joined other NFL players rallying U.S. Armed Forces by touring with the USO. Max was a member of the National Honor Society, the LINK Community Service Program, and served as a tutor for students at Fern Creek Elementary School.

 
David Jablonski - Class of 1984
 

 

Dr. David Jablonski, an Orlando urologist, was the first Lake Highland football player to earn a NCAA Division I football scholarship, playing for the University of Virginia. David lettered in three sports and led the Highlanders to the state basketball semi-finals. A 4-year starter on the basketball team, he was named second team All-State his senior season and was the first player in school history to score over 1000 points. David earned first team All-State honors in football as a linebacker his senior season, leading Lake Highland with 136 tackles. David set school records in the discus and triple jump. David graduated from the University of Florida Medical School and is a member of the Lake Highland Board of Trustees.
